COMMENTS FROM THE FOSTER FAMILY:

What an amazing little guy!  If there was ever I foster we’d like to adopt, Pinto would be it ! He is intelligent, lovable and lots of fun.

He was apparently attacked prior to coming to BFPA so he’s shy and reserved when he first meets people and other dogs, but he quickly warms up.  After the first night in our home, he learned our 4 dogs were no threat and he fits right in with the whole gang !

He loves to cuddle and is a great lap dog as soon as you sit down.  He’ll follow us around the house and watch what we are doing, but doesn’t get under our feet.  When all our dogs are in the yard, he’ll run around with everyone with lots of energy, but in the house, he’s a calm observer of all the activity around him.

He’s a smart dog and we are working on some basic training and leash manners.  We go for daily walks and his little feet go as fast as they can to keep up with our big dogs.  He doesn’t bark unless the other dogs bark when someone comes to the door.  He has no food agression at all.  He waits his turn to get his bowl and sometimes watches our other dogs eat before he starts eating.

He loves to play with our lab Ruby.  They will nip and wrestle with each other and sometimes Ruby will chase Pinto around the house like a cat !  Pinto loves it.  He’ll get into a small space where Ruby can’t get him then jump out at Ruby for another game of cat and mouse !   He also like to chew on the chew toys of our other dogs.  He’s almost as big as some of the dog toys in our house.  What he lacks in size, he makes up for in attitude.

He gets along great with not only our dogs, but other dogs in the neighborhood.  I understand from his time at the shelter that he was fine with cats too, but we have not cat tested him in our home.  He does fine with the kids in our neighborhood (ages over 5 years old) and will let them pet him.  He likes it when they rub his belly.

He would do fine in either a busy or quiet home.  When there is activity, he joins in, but when there is not, he’s content to just lay down.  He did fine in the car ride to our house, but I recommend using a crate because he like to go from window to window to look out at his surroundings.

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Pinto was one of 22 dogs pulled from rural high-kill animal shelters ahead of Hurricane Mathew.  Pinto had been attacked by another dog and was found as a stray.  He suffered several puncture wounds but is healing nicely in his foster home. He is anxiously awaiting his forever home and would make an excellent pet.
