About Zack--ADOPTED

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
ZACK'S PHOTO GALLERY STATUS: Zack has found his forever home in Raleigh with Stacie & Neil Boswell and their children Tyler and Cailyn. PERSONALITY: Loving, intelligent, adores his people. ~DOB: December 2008 WEIGHT: 75 lbs. HEALTH: UTD on all vaccinations and monthly preventatives. Zack has recovered from knee surgery (early 2013) and was successfully treated for heartworms. STERILIZED: Neutered MICROCHIPPED: Yes DOGS: Zack gets along well with his foster siblings, including 2 special needs dogs. CATS: Zack is wonderful with cats. CHILDREN: Untested, but Zack would likely do well with older, respectful children. HOUSEBROKEN: Yes CRATETRAINED: Zack has perfect house manners and does not need to be crated. LEASH MANNERS: Needs a little work as he is sometimes initially too exuberant! CAR RIDES: Excellent car manners and enjoys rides, alternating between napping & watching the scenery. FOSTER PARENT COMMENTS: Zack is an exceptional boy whose beautiful eyes speak volumes to the loving and intelligent soul that he is. He craves companionship and loves nothing better than to claim a spot on the couch and attentively monitor all household activities, but he will also track you down if you have disappeared for too long. Zack is always ready to enjoy his Kong, entertains himself by removing stuffed animals and toys from the toy basket and is in heaven when he is allowed his favorite treat – a few bites of cream cheese. While Zack is completely relaxed and a perfect gentleman at home, he sometimes experiences anxiety and is uncomfortable in unfamiliar places. Therefore he would likely benefit from training that would allow him to build his confidence. EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: BFPA responded to a plea from the small Franklin County animal shelter in December when it was beyond capacity and Zack was running out of time. Zack came in as a stray, but definitely appeared to have had a home at one time and has always displayed excellent house manners. Unfortunately, it was discovered that Zack was in extreme pain due to a severe knee injury that required Cruciate Ligament repair surgery; and also that he was HW+. To make matters worse, Zack was significantly overweight, but he has since lost about 15 pounds and is maintaining a healthy weight. Keeping his weight down in the future will be important as his weight may possibly have contributed to his knee injury. He will probably need to take joint supplements as an added precaution. Zack demonstrated extraordinary patience and was a model patient in tolerating full-time crate restriction for 12 weeks of recovery following his surgery & HW treatment. He has made an excellent recovery and is now ready to find the wonderful home & family that he so richly deserves. We do home visits to finalize adoptions and/or deliver the adopted dog. Therefore, we request potential adopters live a reasonable driving distance to the Triangle area (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill) of North Carolina.
