FOSTER PARENT COMMENTS: She is sweet, snugly and playful. She's still a silly, goofy puppy, but she is confident and determined. She has an expressive face/ears and her eyes are full of soul. She's friendly to every human she meets, but needs training with jumping and calm greetings. Once the initial meetings are over she will settle down for belly rubs, but she does have a lack of "impulse control". She is smart as a whip, eager to learn and presents great eye contact. Food and toy motivated, which will make training a easier. She is high energy and learned to trot on treadmill (before leg injury). After the appropriate amount of exercise she will settle down nicely and chew on a bone or snuggle in bed (she practically wants to be under the covers with you). She will entertain herself well with a toy or bone, but does need about an hour+ of daily exercise. She knows basic commands, sit, down, come, and will wait patiently for her meals. She likes car rides and is learning to be calm, she usually is excited at first, but once we start moving she will lay down and sleep or sit stoically looking out the window. I think she will turn out to be a nice dog once we get through this tough age. She is just a wild, play monster right now...but once she gets what she needs she is a good girl. She is athletic and would be a good sport dog. She also likes and learned to play fetch!

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:    Right before the New Year BFPA was alerted to a highly pregnant dog that was surrendered to a rural and overcrowded shelter. The shelter was so full that not only did they not have an open kennel but they could not house a dog that could give birth at any moment. BFPA has learned that Goldie was surrendered by two men who no longer wanted her because this was the second time she was pregnant. Goldie spent her entire life chained outside and was very emaciated. After Goldie spent only 3 days in BFPA’s care, she went into labor and was rushed to an emergency clinic in the middle of the night as she was struggling to give birth. After an emergency C-section, Goldie gave birth to 13 puppies on December 30, 2015. It was clear to BFPA that she and her babies would have died a painful death if she wasn’t rescued.

ADOPTING A YOUNG PUPPY FROM BFPA: Requires that you live no further than a 30-mile radius from the Triangle area of North Carolina, as you must be close enough for us to meet all the medical procedures we cover before final adoption. We prefer to adopt young puppies to a single, couple or family who have previous experience owning a dog and live in a single family house rather than an apartment, condo or townhome. Any children in the home under 6 years old must have experience living with a dog in their home.

Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed. We do home visits to finalize adoptions and/or deliver the adopted dog. Therefore, we prefer potential adopters live a reasonable distance to the Triangle area (Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill) of North Carolina.
