Otis is in love with life! He loves to meet new people and is very sociable. He is outgoing, energetic and affectionate. Long walks are right up his alley, the longer the better. The ideal situation for him would be in a house with a large fenced yard since Otis is an energetic dog and needs lots of exercise. His would probably really like a family who have older children so he can play and he would most likely enjoy having another dog in the house. He always wants to be with people and doing things. He is a fun dog and would probably like playing frisbee. He can jump off his feet but has not tried to jump our 5 foot fence or the baby gate in the kitchen. When he is wet from the rain, we put him in our laundry room with the door open and a babygate so he can see us. He does not try to stand on it or jump over it. Otis would also do well with someone who jogs as he would run along and be happy. Although Otis is crate trained I would NOT recommend keeping him in a crate all day while people are at work. He has way too much energy and it wouldn't be fair either way. Otis is good in the car and will jump in, ready to go somewhere. We do not have children, but when we have seen him around children he has been good once he settles down. He is active and jumps on people when he first meets them, so would not recommend a family with young/small children, unless well supervised. As I said we are working with him on the jumping . Older children who could play ball/frisbee with him would probably be a good fit. Otis is always ready to do something - life is a big adventure for him. He might even like going to a lake in the water etc. Otis likes to look at squirrels, rabbits, geese etc. but will usually watch them quietly, although he would love to chase them. He does not jump up on the windows when he is in the house if there is something interesting outside. Otis rarely barks and sometimes will make a cute grumbling sound when he wants something. We spend a lot of time with Otis and he is truly a joy - such a sweet dog and very affectionate. Otis has a very long tail and it's always wagging - he's always smiling too. Otis was an "owner surrender" to the Wake County Animal Center in Raleigh on Oct. 13th and we got him as a foster the next day so he did not spend a lot of time at the shelter. Previous owners may have lived in an apartment which would have been too confining for him. He is now looking for his forever home with people who can love him and give him the type of space and exercise that he deserves and will do best in. Could that home be yours?
