Timid when she meets new people, but very friendly once she gets to know you! Then she won't leave you alone :) Does your dog get along with other dogs? Yes How does your dog do with cats? She sniffs them but leaves them alone. If they run she will sometimes go after them, but a strong "leave it" makes her stop. Has your dog been around children and if so, how did it go? Yes. Timid at first, then loves attention. Would not be suitable for children under 5 just because she may run into them during her "zoomies." Is your dog vocal or quiet? quiet Is your foster dog housebroken? Yes. Needs to go out about 4-5 times a day still since she is a puppy, but no accidents in the house. How long can your dog be left without having to go outside to do “their business”? 4-5 hours Describe your dogs activity level….low, moderate or high energy? High. Needs daily walks, dogs to play with, toys, etc. Do you think your dog needs a fenced in yard or it this just a “nice to have” feature? It would be very advantageous to have one. She is still a bit nervous on walks, so she prefers to go potty in an area she is familiar with. For fetch and run around time it would be great. But for someone who doesn't mind the extra exercise, a fence isn't a necessity. Are you crate training your dog and if so, how does the dog react? She is crate trained at night, goes right into her crate with no problem. She stays in a good 8-9 hours overnight. During the day however she gets desperation anxiety if left in the crate for more than about 4 hours. Would be better if someone was at home with her during the day.
Where does the dog sleep at night? Her crate
Are you leash walking your dog? If so, how is that going? Pretty well! She is a dog that will need consistent walking to get used to unfamiliar situations and people. But the more she goes, the better she is. We use an easy walk harness system.
What are some of your fosters favorite things to do? Being with us all the time! She sits next/on top of us on the couch. She loves to fetch and run in the backyard. She loves to play tug of war with our other dog, and treats of course!
Do you think your dog could be an only dog? Yes, but she would be a dog that would need to go to a dog park/have neighborhood dog friends to play with occasionally.
Does your dog know any basic commands…sit, stay, come? She knows sit, lay down, wait/stay, leave it, and off.
Why should someone adopt your dog, what are his/her strong points? If you want a dog to follow you everywhere, Bailey is the perfect dog! She loves to be a part of your life. She would thrive in an active family environment. She is so loving and silly, constant source of entertainment.
Do you know how much your dog weighs and what the potential weight might be? 35 pounds currently. I don't think she will get over 40/45lbs.
Please provide any other comments which will be helpful for a potential adopter to know. It would be great if Bailey had someone working from home, with an active lifestyle!
EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Bailey and her 3 sibling were living outside in deplorable conditions. BFPA worked with another rescue group and brought them into wonderful foster homes. Could you have that perfect forever home for Bailey?? Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed. We do home visits to finalize adoptions and/or deliver the adopted dog. PLEASE NOTE: Bailey has only had one set of vaccines so if a trial adoption begins before her second set of vaccines (late March) , the potential adopters will have to keep her in their home and yard to minimize the risk of exposure to germs. Interaction with unknown dogs at pet stores, doggie day care, dog parks, etc. should be avoided during this period. ADOPTING A YOUNG PUPPY FROM BFPA: Requires that you live no further than a 30-mile radius from the Triangle area of North Carolina, as you must be close enough for us to meet all the medical procedures we cover before final adoption. We prefer to adopt young puppies to a single, couple or family who have previous experience owning a dog and live in a single family house rather than an apartment, condo or townhome. Any children in the home under 6 years old must have experience living with a dog in their home. INTERESTED IN ADOPTING BAILEY?
