Comments from the foster parents:

Nelly is very friendly to all humans. She loves children of all ages and is very gentle with them.  With proper  introductions, she also gets along with dogs.  She loves playing with her foster brother and sister. She does not live with cats and probably would not do well with them.

Nelly is a quiet dog who only barks appropriately if she hears a noise outside that shouldn't be there.

Nelly is totally housebroken and can be left alone for 8-9 hours  without having to go outside.  She is used to the crate and is fine in there but she has free roaming of the house when we are not home.  She has impeccable house manners and is trustworthy. She does not need to be crated at night either.

She loves sleeping on the bed or couch but when it's time for a walk, she can happily go three miles! She does great on a leash.  And when it is play time with the dogs....look out, she loves to wrestle with them.

It took Nelly five months to learn to cuddle with humans but now she loves it. Every week she becomes even more confident and more loving. It is amazing to see that she no longer meets a stranger....everyone is a potential new friend.  She likes to eat, play with the dogs and follow her humans around. She would do fine as an only dog but she does like the company of another dog and will follow their lead.

Nelly is incredibly loving, after having survived a rough life.  She is extremely gentle and can be active or quiet depending upon the situation.  I think she would be very protective of someone she loves (the good side of protective).  She is a dog that bonds strongly and is wonderfully loyal.

Please consider making Nelly a part of your family.  You will never be disappointed in your choice.

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:  Nelly was in a rural shelter. The shelter was totally full and Nelly's life was in jeopardy. When BFPA heard about her, we had to step in to save her.  She was described as sweet, probably abused but wanted to be loved so much.  We admitted Nelly and then discovered that she was pregnant.  Her puppies have been adopted and now it is Nelly's turn to find the life she deserves and longs for.

Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.
