Samantha (Sam) appears to be an Anatolian Shepherd. At 1 year old and 75lbs, Samantha is a great great dog who will make a wonderful family pet. She has bonded to her foster mom quickly and will be a very loyal dog friend for many many years to come.
Once Sam has a brief introduction to another person, she warms up and remains very friendly. Sam is very sweet, loves belly rubs and snuggling (a people-pleaser kind of dog for sure). Sam is very smart and learns quickly, yet has that puppy playful energy to burn off, so having her own fenced yard to run and play in, including the opportunity for walks, will help Sam settle down nicely. She needs daily exercise! Sam will need regular activity to keep any destructive behavior from developing including problem solving activities like obtaining her dry food out of a molecule ball and ongoing obedience training to channel her energy. Sam is housebroken and leashed trained; and her current foster is working with Sam to allow her access to the home when the foster mom is away on errands and at work. So far her foster mom is very impressed with Sam's, "I'm home alone" behavior.
Samantha is friendly with the neighborhood children, but given her size, it is believed Sam would be a better fit for older children/youth. Sam can get really excited when its time to go outside (or during her walk) and thus could accidentally knock over smaller children if she were to get really excited around them.
EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Samantha was found as a stray. Efforts made by several fosters to find her owner have not yielded results. During Sam's first stay with her rescue mom, she was homed with another dog and remains very dog friendly!! After showing way too much interest in free ranging chickens, BFPA was happy to admit this gorgeous dog who is now looking for her forever home. During a temporary foster, Sam lived with a cat and did not try to chase her. However, due to her keen interest in little creatures such as chickens, birds, squirrels, and bunnies (all of which she LOVES to chase), we would recommend a dog-savvy cat at the very least. Small animals pets like hamsters or bunnies would be too much of a temptation to Samantha! Sam still visits her temporary foster mom to say hello, snuggle, and play in her backyard!! Sam is very lucky like that and is always grateful to ride in the car and go for a visit to learn life is grand. This foster mom has a 4-foot chain link fence on two sides of her yard. Sam is attended to when she's in the backyard. It is believed Sam could probably leap a 4ft fence if she was chasing a bunny exuberantly, or sees something through the chain link fence that majorly interests her. Hence BFPA recommends a yard with a 6-ft. wooden fence, just to keep her safely contained, or if no fenced yard, someone who can commit to daily long walks.
