FOSTER PARENT COMMENTS:

Is your dog friendly or timid? Super friendly.

Does your dog get along with other dogs? Yes, but she seems more interested in people.

How does your dog do with cats? She is fine with my dog - savvy cat. She has gotten close enough to be nose to nose without issues but my cat will swat her away if she comes up in a hurry or is too excited.

Has your dog been around children and if so, how did it go? I don't have small children but she is a bit too excitable right now for little ones. She needs a lot of training to not jump and she's mouthy (bites/chews like a puppy and snaps sometimes during play if she gets wound up).

Is your dog vocal or quiet?  Pretty quiet, especially for a little dog -- she barks occasionally but settles down quickly.

Is your foster dog housebroken? We're working on it. I have her morning and evening schedule figured out but the rest of the time, I'm just having to watch her. She now looks up at me for her treat when she gets it right outside. If her new owner has the ability to let her out frequently, that would be ideal. A fenced in yard would be ideal too.

How long can your dog be left without having to go outside to do “their business”?  We've got number 2 figured out -- as soon as she eats -- but still working on number one.  Going out frequently during the day would be ideal.

Describe your dogs activity level….low, moderate or high energy? VERY high energy.  Nina needs a lot of exercise.  Being crated all day with only a short walk would not be a good situation for her.

Do you think your dog needs a fenced in yard or it this just a “nice to have” feature? I really think she would be happier and the family would be happier if she had a place to run wild.

Are you crate training your dog and if so, how does the dog react? She's great in the crate.

Where does the dog sleep at night? In her crate, in the living room. She sleeps all night.

Are you leash walking your dog?  If so, how is that going? We go on an hour walk every morning and an hour and 1/2 in the evening. She loves it, but I have to keep the leash short because she's all over the place, is a tripping hazard and tries to chase cars. Her new family will have to work on leash training but that will come over time.

What are some of your fosters favorite things to do? Play with her toys, running all over the place, going for walks, greeting people and sitting on your lap (if you can get her tired enough!).

Do you think your dog could be an only dog?Yes, but I think everyone would be happier with another dog to teach her some doggie manners.

Do you think your foster could live in an apartment….so would be fairly quiet and OK without their own yard?   She's quiet enough but the family would have to be dedicated to getting her lots of exercise.

Why should someone adopt your dog, what are his/her strong points? Fun, playful, energetic, and loving.

She weighs about 9.5 pounds and I think she's full grown.  Based on personality and looks, I think Nina is a Blue Heeler / Jack Russell or maybe Chihuahua mix.

Nina is a sweet, fun loving bundle of energy.  That energy needs a good outlet so the best adopter would be someone who has had experience with energetic dogs or who are willing to spend some time teaching her good doggie manners.

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:  Nina was an owner surrender that BFPA agreed to find a good home for.  We are now looking for the perfect family for her.  If you are an active family and want an active dog to share  your life with, look no further!  This little bundle of joy is for you!

Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.
