FOSTER PARENT COMMENTS:

Captain is very friendly toward other people and loves everyone he meets. He has a full body wag when he meets people and dances around for the first ten minutes before calming down for cuddles and kisses!

He gets along with dogs and has done well in doggy day care.  He likes to play and
is always ready to play with a flirt pole! With other dogs, he uses his whole body to
play and this means he needs playmates that can keep up with his energy.  If he lives with another dog, they will need to have the same style of play.  He could
be an only dog but only if his human worked from home or was home most of the time. He would not do well being alone all day.   He is not aggressive with toys or bones but he definitely likes to make them all his.  We do not know how he would do with cats.

He does really well with older children.. 5 and over.  Due to his size and energy level, he would probably be a bit much for younger children.   He loves to snuggle on the couch at night and lets children climb all over him without any reaction. He is such a snuggle bug!

Captain is probably too large and vocal for apartment living or any home with shared walls and close neighbors. He is very alert to noises and will bark if he sees someone through the window.   Although, if he is sent to his crate, he will calm down and stop barking (yes, he listens to commands to enter the crate/exit the room etc.).

He is fully house and crate trained.   He is comfortable to sleep in his crate all night, but also loves his favorite spot on the couch, and if you let him, he will even snuggle up close to his favorite foster family kid (a 7-year-old) and sleep with him.   Captain is truly flexible on where he sleeps.  At night, Captain is very calm and ready to settle! He will fit into any sleeping environment with an easy transition.

Captain gets two 30 minute walks per day as the foster is working on leash walking. If you are looking for a jogging partner, Captain is your dog! He will match your pace while jogging and sustain the pace as you need! His foster mommy varies his walks/jogs and if they jog together, it is an easy 10 min mile pace.   In addition to this, the foster uses a flirt pole and tug toys to play and further provide exercise as Captain is preparing for adoption day!   A fenced yard for playing  and running is great, but he does very well with two walks a day or one walk and playtime with other dogs/toys outdoors.

Captain's foster has worked with him on basic training and he has learned several
commands.  He is very, VERY smart and is food motivated which helps with
training.  The foster was able to teach him two tricks in one day! He is young and so
full of life. His happiness is contagious especially when he is carrying around his bone with his behind wiggling from his tail wagging so hard!

Captain is the sweetest dog who has never met a stranger and who will be a loyal family member. He will be ready and by your side for any adventure you have planned!  He loves humans  and absolutely loves to give kisses. Could he give one to you??

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Captain was originally found as a stray and taken to
Wake County Animal Shelter.   He was adopted very quickly into a home with
another dog. The older dog in the home had issues with him as he got to be a bigger
dog and needed to be rehomed.
