FOSTER PARENT COMMENTS: Ebony is a friendly and beautiful girl who loves to be near her foster family cuddling on the couch. Although her name is Ebony she actually responds to her nickname Bonnie. She gets along well with other dogs and currently lives with a 1.5 year old shepherd. They can often be found cuddled up together and even playing and romping in the dog park together. She may be 11 but Ebony is very young at heart with plenty of energy. She gets along wonderfully with cats. She either ignores them or will even allow the more dog-savvy cats to lay down with her on the couch and make biscuits. She lives with 2 cats in her foster home and they have always gotten along great. Ebony has been around kids in the past. She likes to sit on laps even though she is a big girl so small kids need to be monitored closely around her. Otherwise her temperament is very good around kids.

Ebony likes to talk with you. She loves to have full-on conversations with you. When she gets ready to go on a walk she wiggles her butt like crazy and makes little excited whining sounds that are just adorable. She knows "speak" and sometimes takes it upon herself to do it unprompted. She is fully house trained. However, she does prefer to go outside more regularly as she is older and her bladder can only hold it for so long. Her foster says that Bonnie's "golden time" is typically between 4-5 hours, during which she does great. She has gone longer than that but really prefers not to if it isn't necessary.

Ebony's activity level overall is low as she is an older girl. However, this does not slow her down on walks or at the park where she loves to run around for a few minutes. She is happy sleeping in in the mornings and also enjoys her midday nap. Bonnie does not require a fenced in yard as she does not go very far on walks anyways. It would be a nice to have feature for her so that she can go outside to do her business easily, but she is flexible and fine either way. She is crate trained; her foster does not need to crate her unless she will be gone for more than 4 hours at a time. Bonnie sleeps in her foster's bedroom at night. She either sleeps on the floor or curled up at the foot of the bed. She is a very heavy sleeper. Ebony does great on walks. She is a big girl and sometimes pulls a little, but this was easily fixed with a gentle-leader. She gets so excited when she sees it because that means outside time.

Ebony loves eating, sleeping on the couch, going for quick walks and playing with soft toys. Bonnie would be equally happy as an only dog or with doggy siblings. Her favorite things are her people. Bonnie would be a fantastic apartment dog. She currently lives in a small apartment and does very well. Bonnie knows quite a few basic commands; she knows sit, come, up and speak.

Ebony is the sweetest old lady you will ever meet. If you are looking for unconditional love, an easy-going dog that enjoys both sleeping and adventures, as well as a dog that is very cat friendly, she is your girl. All of her attention is on you and she is the best cuddle buddy.

Ebony has a heart condition that is very well managed by the NCSU's vet school cardiology department. She requires daily medication but has done wonderfully with this and has received the all clear from the vet.

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:  Ebony's owners surrender her to a shelter and asked that she be euthanized.  NO WAY!  BFPA stepped in and gave her the medical treatments she needed and she is now looking for a forever home where her owners will give her the loving home so deserves.  She wonders if your home could be the right one for her??

Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.
