FOSTER PARENT COMMENTS: Casper is sweet 3 year old Beagle mix boy. He is very friendly to people and other animals. He was quite shy and scared around loud noises and sudden movements when he first came into our rescue but he has quickly warmed up and is getting more confident by the day. He gets along very well with other dogs. He lives with another dog at his foster home and regularly walks with several other dogs in the neighborhood. He does not live with cats at his foster home but sees his neighbor's cats outside in the yard every day and does not show any interest in them. He was cat tested at the animal shelter with great results and no issues. He is doing very well around children. He lives with a teenager and has kids of all ages around him in the neighborhood to interact with regularly.

Casper is a fairly quiet boy. He does not bark incessantly when he is left at home. He makes a little low pitched purr when he is content. He will sometimes give a happy bark when he is doing zoomies around the yard. He is almost completely housebroken, he just needs a quick reminder to go potty before coming back in. We all get sidetracked when reading the newspaper, right? He can be left for up to 4 hours during the day and about 8 hours at night in between potty breaks.

Casper has a low to moderate energy level.  He loves to walk a couple of times each day. He also loves to fetch a favorite toy. About once a day he will do his zoomies around the yard. But he is also content to snuggle on the couch or a pillow for many hours. He does not require a fenced in yard of his own, although one of those is always a nice to have feature. He could be content with getting his exercise through walks around the neighborhood. He is completely crate trained. He stays in his crate for several hours during the day and all night without complaints. Currently he sleeps in his crate. He would also do well on a dog bed in the bedroom or even in the bed with his humans.

Casper does very well on a leash. He loves walking. He was not leash trained when he arrived at his foster home but he picked it up rapidly. He could be an only dog and due to his quiet and calm nature he would also be a great fit for an apartment as long as he gets to go on his walks. He is working hard on his basic commands. He knew none at first and has picked up "no" and will come when you call his name.

Casper loves to walk, play with his toys (plushy ones), meet other dogs, and hang out with humans no matter what they are doing. He is super cute and cuddly. He loves to hang out with his humans - he will cuddle with his foster family when they watch TV and follow them around the yard when they garden. He is a very easy dog to care for.

Casper is looking for a family of his own to love and cuddle. Could it be you?

PLEASE NOTE: Casper will be going through heartworm treatment which will be paid for by BFPA.  This is a common condition in dogs that are not kept on heartworm preventative medicine and is very treatable.  Casper can start a trial adoption before his treatment starts but cannot be moved to a new home after treatment begins.  He will need to be kept fairly quiet for several weeks so a trial adoption cannot begin during this time.  We can process applications though and will be able to schedule meet and greets when appropriate.

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Casper and his brother were surrendered to a rural shelter and lived there for several months. BFPA was alerted and more than happy to take these boys in and help them find the perfect home. He arrived quite frightened, not knowing how to walk on a leash, and without any housebreaking training. In only a few weeks he blossomed and became trusting and energetic, a reliable leash walker and a great house dog.

Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.
