FOSTER PARENT COMMENTS:

Meet Russ, the snuggler who likes to play, go for walks and  ride in the car.  He will be the perfect companion to a family that is patient with his transition to his forever home.  The reward is a loving and trusting family member.

Russ is a bit timid when meeting new people.  If the new person has treats, he wants to be their friend, LOL!   Russ does great with dogs,  he enjoys physical play with his foster family dog.  He shows too much interest in cats, so no cats in the house.  Russ has not been around children yet.  He would do best with older children/teens who will understand if he is uncomfortable.  Vocally,  Russ is mostly quiet.  He will whine some when he is excited and he likes to bark at large trucks that pass by.  He would do well in a single family home or an apartment/condo/townhouse.

Russ is housebroken and goes several hours before he needs to do his business.  Russ will go into the crate when asked, he doesn't mind it, but it is not necessary for him.  At night he sleep on a dog bed in the bedroom with his foster family or he lays on the couch.

Russ' activity level is super lazy indoors and extremely active outdoors, he loves to run back and forth inside the fenced yard a lot. It would be great if his forever family had a fenced yard since his favorite thing to do is run around the yard and lay outside in the sun no matter how cold it is.  If they don't have a fence, he will need regular walks and the ability to sit in the sun and chill with his family.  Overall he walks good on a leash with occasional pulling.  Russ could be the only dog in a family with regular exercise.  Ideally he would have a friend his size or larger to play with.  Russ is very smart and treat motivated.  This has made it easy for him to learn sit, wait and stand.  He is working on others too.

Are you ready to open your heart to this sweet boy who wants a loving family but needs time to trust?

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Russ found himself in a rural shelter and was rescued in the nick of time before a hurricane. He has done well with his formal training sessions and is now ready to find his forever home.

Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.
