FOSTER PARENT COMMENTS:

Cane is a very friendly 12 week old mix who weighs 10 lbs. He may be part chocolate lab, he looks black but if you look closely, his coat is a mahogany brown.  He has shorter legs and floppy ears so he may be part hound also.   He loves people and dogs.  He's not at all timid and will go up to anyone right away and wants to cuddle and play. He bonds quickly with his human, is a quick learner and will be a perfect size dog.....maybe around 30 lbs.

He's wonderful with dogs. Cane lives with 3 big dogs and will go out in the yard  and run around with them.  He's not afraid to play with them and he's learning proper dog 'social behavior'. He has no experience with cats though.

He's not been around children but he should be a perfect puppy for a family with children.  He's not a puppy that is mouthy and bites/ nips - as most of them do.  Unlike other puppies, he won't bite noses or ears.

Cane is only about 12 weeks old so he is not totally housebroken, but he's good about not soiling his crate as long as he's let out about every 4 - 5 hours.  At night, he is let outside once in the middle of the night and he's not soiled in his crate.  If he is allowed to roam feely in the house, he will need to monitored closely and taken out frequently.

Cane loves to play.  He loves to run around with the other dogs and will run with them in the yard - as fast as his little legs will let him.  He loves to chase a ball or play with toys.   He loves to chew so we always make sure he's got chew toys available.

He loves his chew toys and chew treats.   He does like to chew so good, sturdy chew toys are a must at this stage!

Cane would love to live with another dog.  If he is an only dog, he will need a lot of human companionship since he is very social.  He is not used to being alone so it may take time for him to become acclimated to being alone.

He understands 'sit' before he gets a treat and he knows 'outside' and runs to the back door.  He comes right away when we call 'puppy' even if he is busy playing with the other dogs.
If you are looking for your new best friend, look no longer.  Cane is the guy for you!

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Cane was found as a stray in a rural county.  He was taken to the local animal shelter and when BFPA was notified that a wonderful puppy was available, we had to scoop him up and find him a wonderful home.  Could that be your home?

ADOPTING A YOUNG PUPPY FROM BFPA: Requires that you live no further than a 30-mile radius from the Triangle area of North Carolina, as you must be close enough for us to meet all the medical procedures we cover before final adoption. We prefer to adopt young puppies to people who have previous experience owning a dog and live in a single family house rather than an apartment, condo or townhome. Puppies can be vocal when left alone and shared walls are can be an issue.  Any children in the home under 6 years old must have experience living with a dog in their home.   PLEASE NOTE:  If a trial adoption begins before the second set of vaccines (mid-January) , the potential adopters will have to keep Cane in their home and yard to minimize the risk of exposure to germs.   Interaction with unknown dogs at pet stores, doggie day care, dog parks, apartment common grounds and any public areas where other dogs may frequent should be avoided during this period.  Puppies CANNOT live in apartments or townhomes with shared common ground until after their second round of vaccines.
