FOSTER PARENT COMMENTS:
Yates is an adorable, highly intelligent pup who loves to play tug & tag, learn new tricks, and snuggle. He may be quite timid but should warm up quickly once he feels secure and understands his new environment. He adores his older doggie sister and human playmates (15, 13, & 10) and their playtime outside. Yates doesn't live with a cat so we do not know how he will do with one. He was curious about guinea pigs in the beginning but now sort of just ignores them.
He loves to lounge around the house and/or yard between his romps. He sleeps in his crate at night without waking or needing to potty (10pm - 6:30am) and immediately goes out to do his business with a quick “hurry up” command before breakfast. He also goes out in the backyard every 2-3 hours during the day to potty and sniff around and has not had an accident in over a week. He is used to having a fenced yard so this would be ideal for him.
He does not like to be left alone in his crate during the day, but he does quiet down within a few minutes of being left alone in the house. He is definitely food motivated and easy to train - he learned how to use the Kong food dispenser after 1 attempt and learned “sit” in 1 day! Leash walking is his next feat after he completes his upcoming immunizations/neuter! He currently weighs about 13 pounds and looks to be a Beagle/Hound mix.
A few of Yates’ favorite things: Kong food dispenser, carrots to chew, tug rope, playing tag (dogs OR people), chasing a tennis ball (or plastic egg!), snuggling
EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Yates was found on a rural road by the coast. When an owner couldn't be located, BFPA was contacted and we are happy to find a forever home for him.
