She is a bit timid at first then is super friendly. She gets along well with other dogs. She has not been around cats. Our children ages, 10, 13, & 15 love to snuggle and play with her. We use lots of toys to entertain her and distract the normal puppy mouthing. Zena is generally quiet, but can whine and bark for a short time when left alone. We are working on housetraining. She knows to do "her business" outside when you say "hurry up" and she keeps her crate clean. However she is not completely housebroken but she is smart and learning quickly. We take her out hourly during the day for potty breaks. She can be left in her crate for several hours and overnight without accidents. At night, Zena settles down pretty quickly in her crate. She will sleep from 11pm-6:30am without whining. A forever home with a fenced yard is not necessary. Zena uses our fenced backyard, but honestly spend more time indoors when given the opportunity to choose. Like all puppies, she is high energy and very fast, but a walk, after vaccinations are completed would probably make a big difference. We have practiced leash walking in our yard, but she is easily distracted. Once all vaccines are complete, we will venture out for walks in the neighborhood. Zena loves to run and play with toys. She is so smart, she has learned to jump through a hula hoop for treats, and she loves to chew a soft squeaky toy. She knows the command "sit" and responds to "come" with a kiss sound. She is very observant, her beautiful blue eyes are always watching and she loves to snuggle up for a long nap. Is this sweet pup the right fit for your family? ADOPTING A YOUNG PUPPY FROM BFPA: Requires that you live no further than a 30-mile radius from the Triangle area of North Carolina, as you must be close enough for us to meet all the medical procedures we cover before final adoption. We prefer to adopt young puppies to people who have previous experience owning a dog and live in a single family house rather than an apartment, condo or townhome. Puppies can be vocal when left alone and shared walls are sometimes an issue. Any children in the home under 6 years old must have experience living with a dog in their home. NOTE: Zena has only had one set of vaccines so if a trial adoption begins before the second set of vaccines, the potential adopters will have to keep her in their home and yard to minimize the risk of exposure to germs. She cannot live in an apartment until after she receives her second set of vaccines at the end of July. Interaction with unknown dogs at pet stores, doggie day care, dog parks, apartment common grounds and any public areas must be avoided during this time. INTERESTED IN ADOPTING ZENA ?
