FOSTER COMMENTS:

Wallace is a 1 year old basenji mix dog who is fully grown at 50 pounds.  He is very friendly and he LOVES other dogs.  He wants to make every dog he meets his best friend.  If he is with another dog, he doesn't want to stop playing!  We do not have a cat so we don't know how he would do with a kitty sibling.  The youngest child Wallace has been around is 9 years old and it went fine.  He can get very playful, so he may be a bit rowdy for a small child.  Wallace is super friendly, but can be a scaredy dog when he encounters something he's never seen before.

Wallace is totally housetrained.  He can wait 8 hours between potty breaks but more frequent trips out are recommended.  Wallace is crate trained but  is only crated when we are not home.  He was shy about the crate at first, but as long as there is a treat in it for him, he will go in with ease.  At night, Wallace sleeps on the floor in the room with us.  We do not allow him to sleep with us (but he REALLY wants to!)  If you are the kind of person who likes a dog to snuggle up with, this is the dog for you!

Wallace is a moderate to high energy dog.  He has moments of very high energy, and others when he can be calm and relaxed.  We are working on leash training.  He is a strong dog and pulls on a leash.  I think a fenced yard is a super plus, but is not necessary if his adopters continue training.  He only walks on the leash in the house and in our fenced back yard.  Wallace gets so excited to go on walks that he pulls.  He wants to meet every person and animal he comes across! We are working on loose leash walking and any adopter will need to continue with this training.

Wallace loves to be with people, he is always by the side of me and my husband.  He likes to perch on the ottoman and look out the window during the day.  He loves to chew on toys and toss them around the house.  He loves zooming around the back yard and playing with other dogs.  Overall, he is a pretty quiet dog.  He has started "talking" more to let us know when his toy is out of his reach!

Wallace can absolutely be an only dog or have a furry sibling.  He likes attention and seems to feel safe when it's him and his people.  I have some concern that if he were with another dog he may never be able to stop himself from playing :)  Wallace is very smart and we are teaching him commands. He is food motivated so he is very focused on the lesson at hand.   He has learned to sit, stay, go down, come, high five, and look.

Wallace is loyal, loveable, and playful.  He seems very joyful about life and brings a smile to my face every time I look at him :)  Maybe this sweet pup will fit into your family and find his forever home.

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Wallace was found as a stray and taken to a rural shelter.  No one claimed him so BFPA was happy to admit him into our rescue. BFPA is now trying to find the perfect home for her.  Does your home sound like the perfect one?

Some of the information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed.  Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.
