FOSTER COMMENTS:

Fiona is a 3 years old cattle dog mix and fully grown at 25 pounds.  She can be timid around new people but warms up quickly and seeks your attention to be petted or for a game of fetch.  She does well with other dogs and dog savvy cats.  Fiona's has previously lived with two boys aged 10-12. She did very well with them.

Fiona is generally very quiet but will alert us when something is happening.  She will bark for doorbells/door knocks and occasionally for other noises when she doesn't know where they came from.  After one or two barks to let us know she heard something she is back to her usual quiet self.

We are working on Fiona's housetraining and it is going very well.  Fiona knows where to do her business but needs to learn how to let us know it "is time".  Sticking to a schedule has allowed her to avoid accidents.   During the day we try to give her the option every 2 hours but she has gone 3 or 4 on occasion without issue. Fiona doesn't mind being in her crate.  She sleeps in her crate and has had no issues overnight with crying or needing to go to the bathroom.

Fiona is content to relax most of the day, but will get excited to play fetch.  She can be very fast and loves tennis balls!   A fenced yard is a must for Fiona as she has some herding tendencies and loves to run.  Fiona is learning to be leash walked but still needs training.   She has improved dramatically but occasionally has strong opinions on which side of the street to walk on or how long to sniff a fire hydrant!!

Fiona's favorite things to do are relaxing somewhere that she can see what the family is up to, chewing on a chew toy and chasing a tennis ball.  She is super smart and learning the commands, sit, stay, come and is getting better with them all the time.  She will do well in a family as an only dog or with a furry sibling.  Fiona has a lot of love to give.  She is very gentle, playful and well behaved.  Does your family have the time to give Fiona the love she deserves?

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Fiona was found as a stray and taken to a small rural shelter.  She was covered in fleas and had probably been on her own for awhile. BFPA was happy to admit her into our rescue and we are now trying to find the perfect home for her.  Does your home sound like the perfect one?

Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.
