Melanie is a small Chihuahua mix with a lot of love to give. She weighs  approximately 10 lbs and we think she is about 10 years old.

She can be a bit shy, but once she settles in and gets to know you, Melanie has shown herself to be an adoring, faithful, and even comedic friend. Her true happiness is on the couch with her people or in a dog bed close by. She doesn’t love to be held or snuggled right on you, but she wants to be near her pack (human and pup) and will follow you around the house. She enjoys tottering around the yard soaking in the smells and loves to plop down in the grass to enjoy the sun.

Melanie adores the puppy friends in her foster home and has done well with dogs large and small. We think she would love to be in a home with another dog to pal around with. She also appears be fine with cats. She has been around a 4 and 6 year old child a lot, and was aware that they were there, but had no interest in them.

Melanie is housebroken, but as an older dog, must be taken out regularly. She likes to sleep near her pack and sleeps well through the night in her fosters’ master bathroom with a baby gate.

While Melanie enjoys her naps, she is amazingly quick when she wants to be and should always be on a leash when outside. Because of her size and the number of birds of prey and coyotes, she should never be left alone outdoors.

Melanie is diabetic and requires insulin shots at regular intervals twice daily. The shots are easy and quick, and she doesn’t seem to mind at all.

Melanie is still coming out of her shell after a very tough life. She has made amazing progress and would love a quiet, relaxed home that understands how to show and receive her love. She a precious, gentle, faithful companion who just wants to soak in your love by being nearby and watching you with her adoring eyes and expressive face.

Sweet Melanie is looking for her forever home that will give her all the love and security she deserves.  Could that home be yours?
