FOSTER COMMENTS: 

Deena  is a beautiful, 32  pound German Shepard/Hound  mix.   She is still a puppy at just shy of  1year.  If you are looking for an affectionate and playful dog who likes to learn, Deena may be a great match for you.  

Deena is both friendly and timid.   It takes her a short amount of time to warm up to new people, but she is gaining confidence daily!  She LOVES other dogs.  She really enjoys running around in the backyard and playing with her brother and other dogs she has met.  She was fine with cats during a short stay with another family.  She is not currently living with cats, so I cannot speak for that.  Deena has not been around small children.  I think she should be good with older, more predictable children! 

Deena is working on housetraining.  We let Deena and her brother out to the bathroom regularly.  Deena has no accidents in her kennel and is in it for 8 hours a night.  Both dogs are currently only allowed freedom in the kitchen and we are gradually introducing them to the rest of the house.

Deena's activity level is moderate.  She likes to run around in the yard and play and then nap when she gets inside.  She is picking up leash walking quickly!  The best news is that she is a blank slate and has no bad leash habits!  She responds well to "heel" and sit when out for walk.  She does get scared when she sees new things and will pull backwards.  With some gentle coaxing, she will move.  (She would not allow us to put a leash on her only a few weeks ago, but she is now walking with ease!)   Deena is making  progress with her confidence level but needs a fenced  yard to help her be the best dog possible.   She loves running around the yard and is easy to get inside.   She would do best with another dog or with a family who visits dog parks regularly.  

Deena is crated in the kitchen next to her brother (who is also crated) when we are away from home and at bedtime.   Deena will often choose her crate even if she is free to roam.   At night she would probably enjoy sleeping in a room with her owner or with another dog!

Deena is still a puppy!  She loves romping with her brother in the back yard, chewing on her toys, playing fetch in the kitchen, napping, and getting all the pets!  She not a very vocal dog.  She will bark to get your attention, to go out,  or to instigate play.  She is super food motivated and will do anything for a treat.  This makes her very easy to train!  She has learned the commands:  "sit", "come", "go to bed", and is learning "heel". She needs a patient owner who will help her gain confidence.  Does this super sweet pup sound like she could fit into your family?

Denna was surrendered along with her brother by their owner to a rural shelter.   BFPA took both siblings in to help them find their forever home.  They were never socialized and  fearful of  just  about  everything.  They have improved SO much  and are  now  ready to move on  to their new forever home.

Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized.  Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions.  We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.
