FOSTER COMMENTS: Sammi is a 1 year old, 20 pound Beagle. She is an absolute sweetheart and such a well-behaved pooch!
Sammi is the EPITOME of friendly! Every person she meets is her FAVORITE person! She hasn’t met a pooch that she didn’t want to be best friends with! Sammi has a best friend and foster-sister by her side 24/7 who has taught her perfect house manners. When I leave the home she is always with her foster-sister so she hasn't been tested to see how she behaves home alone. We think that given her overly friendly nature, being alone for long periods without a buddy to cuddle with would not be ideal. I forever home with a family member that works from home or a home with a furry brother or sister might be best.
Sammi has 2 speeds: Coma or sheer JOY. Inside the home she is a Pooch of Leisure and prefers to lounge on or near her human or doggie best friend. The moment the leash comes out, her switch is flipped! She knows new smells await her outside on a walking adventure.
We suspect she was around children before becoming a stray as she gets very interested whenever she spots a child on a walk. Sammi LOVES walks because the hound in her gets to smell all of the wonderful smells of nature. She can be very enthusiastic on walks so we uses a harness instead of a collar. We take two long-ish walks a day and that satisfies her. Sammi is nearly perfect but could use some more practice when it comes to continuing her leash training.
Sammis best friend and foster-sister has taught her perfect house manners. She has never had an accident in the home nor exhibited any destructive behavior. For those reasons, she’s never been crated while home alone and has done wonderfully! That being said, she does take her cues from her foster sister so it is unknown how she would do in a different environment. Sammi spends her day cuddled with her foster sister while foster mom is at work. She has gone ~10 hours between potty breaks with no issues.
We do not have a fenced yard but Sammi has adapted very well to just going on walks. We suspect she would match the energy of her household. Her current foster home is low-energy and that probably explains all of the snoozing. Sammi currently lives in a middle-unit townhome and has not caused any disturbances with the neighbors. She’s generally very mellow during the day because she and her foster sister do not have access to windows. When she has the opportunity to lounge in front of the window when her foster mother is at home, she does like to give a warning of the squirrels that are plotting a scheme outside. She listens well when corrected and discontinues barking immediately.
Sammi is an absolute sweetheart and such a well-behaved pooch! She loves to be loved and would lay on your lap all day if you let her. The first thing she does in the morning when she wakes up is roll over and wait for the perfect belly rub to start her day.
