FOSTER COMMENTS: Callie loves people! She is still a puppy so not all children love her. As is typical of a puppy she nibbles and jumps, especially when she is excited. We have been working with her to try and decrease this.
Callie also loves other dogs! She has been submissive when meeting other dogs. When she gets to know them, she plays hard. She is very high energy and is frequently wanting my dog to play with her, especially to chase around the yard and wrestling. She loves to chase balls but doesn't return them to me. Callie could be an only dog in her forever family but I think she would do best with a furry sibling who wants to play.
Callie is very high energy. She has not yet learned to calm herself. We have found that we have to put her in the crate after she has been playing in the backyard. There she will calm herself and nap. When she is outside the crate, she is walking around sniffing, trying to get into things (as all puppies do), chewing a bone, or playing with our dog.
I would say Callie is about 95% house trained. She is crate trained, it is her safe place. We have used the command "crate up" and she will go into her crate. We also are still giving her a treat when she does. My husband and I work from home. We have a 2nd crate set up in the office for her to be in while we work. When it is time to go to the office, she will go up the stairs and go directly into the crate and sit down without any type of command.
Callie is not overly vocal. She is vocal when she is playing with our dog. She will also bark when she is excited to get out of the crate. She is doing well walking on the leash. We are using a harness and she loves to explore.
I see Callie's forever home as one with a furry playmate and a fenced yard. Once she gets older I think she could be trained to be a great running partner with her owner. Callie likes to be pet and when she is calm, she is a great snuggler.
EVERY DOG HAS A STORY:
Callie was found as a stray and turned into a rural shelter. She was never claimed so BFPA stepped in to help this sweet pup find her forever home. The information contained in this biography includes approximations based on our expertise and is not guaranteed. Applicants must live no further than one hour from Cary NC as our dogs must be seen by a BFPA veterinarian for all medical care prior to adoptions being finalized. Our foster guardians deliver dogs to their new homes for adoption trials and we do home visits to finalize all adoptions. We therefore require applicants to live within an hours drive of Cary NC.
