It’s impossible to resist sweet Canyon’s adorable face! He is around 3 month old and expected to be at least 50 lbs. when full grow. This little guy, part of the National Parks litter, is not only precious, but also is excelling at basic obedience and manners! Canyon will be at the top of his Puppy Kindergarten class and is sure to wow you with his skills: he has quickly and eagerly picked up many training cues including Sit, Come, Drop, Go Potty, Spin, and Let’s Go. He is almost, if not entirely, potty trained and has not had an accident in his foster’s home (he gets very regular potty breaks to help support his awesome efforts!). He does a polite automatic sit when he comes over to you, and he knows to sit and wait before going through a door.
Canyon slept through the sounds of fireworks and thunderstorms. He loves learning new things, and responds very well to positive reinforcement and treats! Canyon enjoys multiple play, exercise, and training sessions each day - and when he isn’t exploring the yard or chasing after toys and balls, he loves hanging out in his puppy pen for some quiet time entertaining himself with toys or soothing his puppy teeth by gnawing on a chew toy. Canyon climbs into his crate for a nap regularly, and chooses to sleep in it every night - it is kept open inside his pen and he loves to be in it. He sleeps through the night.. He whines to indicate he needs to go out and has barked occasionally when playing, but otherwise is generally a quiet guy.
Canyon has met the resident cat at his foster home, and although he would like to pounce and play, he is quickly learning restraint and to show calmness and respect. He is also doing the same with the resident hound dog and has gotten along well with other dogs he has encountered. He is still learning the ins and outs of when to use his puppy teeth. Puppies are not always a good match for young children who have never lived with a puppy. Canyon would be happy in a home with another playful dog. He also would be fine as an only dog if he got a lot of human attention and some socialization with other dogs.
Canyon's ideal home will have a fenced yard so he can run around. If he does not have a fenced yard, he will need multiple walks daily. He would love to live with someone who is home a lot. Is your home the right fit for him?
If you are looking for a social and fun puppy, Canyon's got a heart of gold and he’s as “grand” as his namesake!
ADOPTING A YOUNG PUPPY FROM BFPA: Requires that you live no further than a 30-mile radius from our vet in Raleigh, North Carolina, as you must be close enough for us to meet all the medical procedures we cover before final adoption. We prefer to adopt young puppies to people who have previous experience owning a dog and live in a single family house rather than an apartment, condo or townhome. Puppies can be vocal when left alone and shared walls are sometimes an issue. Any children in the home under 6 years old ideally should have experience being around dogs. Puppies can nip, bite and mouth so may not be appropriate for very young children.
