RILEY'S PHOTO GALLERY
STATUS: Riley has been adopted by Ericka and Steve Giroux of Raleigh.
PERSONALITY: Energetic, happy, wants to please, playful.
~DOB: December 2005
WEIGHT: 100 lbs.
HEALTH: UTD on all vaccinations and monthly preventatives.
STERILIZED: Neutered
MICROCHIPPED: Yes
DOGS: Riley does well with other dogs and is currently living with a senior female Schipperke. As with any dog, proper initial introduction is key in being successful with dog to dog meet and greets.
CATS: Riley has been around a cat and had little interest in him. Riley does not chase the cat and backs down when challenged by the cat. He allows the cat to rub against him without reaction.
CHILDREN: Riley does well with children; however, Riley is a very large dog and and does not realize his 100-pound strength. He should not be in a home with children under 8 years old, simply because he is such a big dog. He is gentle and loves to get belly rubs and will play tug with a rope toy. Riley is a very calm dog and will remain calm if his family does the same. If his family wants to play then he too is up for the task and will run around and jump, preferable in a fenced in yard with plenty of room to blow off some energy.
HOUSEBROKEN: Riley is fully house-trained and has learned how to use a doogie door to let himself out. He enjoys being where his family is and prefers the comforts of an indoor home.
CRATETRAINED: Riley is crated at night (but would gladly sleep in the bed if allowed!). His foster mom is feeding him in the crate to increase his acceptance of crate training. Riley is a very well behaved dog and can be left loose in the house during the day without being destructive. He can usually be found sleeping on his dog bed or the couch when his family returns home.
LEASH MANNERS: Riley does very well on a leash and enjoys going for walks. He does not pull but because he is a large dog and can easily overwhelm an inexperienced dogwalker, he should have a strong leader to walk him and continue this training with him. He shows some interest in passing dogs but is not overly excited.
CAR RIDES: Riley is the ultimate, hang the head out the window, car ride loving dog! He readily jumps in the car and loves to sit in the passenger seat if available. He has great car manners and will wait for you (with encouragement) to grab his leash before jumping out of the car.
FOSTER PARENT COMMENTS: Riley is a very sweet easy going dog. He is smart and wants to learn, food is great motivator for Riley. He already knows sit and shake, which we do frequently to build his confidence. We call him âthe hand holderâ because he is really happy to just be near you and have you hold his paw.
He loves to snuggle up to his foster mom in the evenings and get lots of belly rubs and kisses. Riley loves being included in family activities like car rides, being outdoors in the backyard and trips to the beach.
He would enjoy having a friend to spend the day with while the humans are off at work. He currently lives with a senior dog and they get along great. As with all Labs, Riley requires routine brushing and bathing to keep shedding under control.
EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Riley was a one-owner dog who is being due to divorce. His familyâs children grew up and moved away and he was left in a small concrete pen outdoors. He received the basics (food, vet care) but deserves better and BFPA is happy to help find him a new family.
