He has a generally very relaxed and serene temperament in the house, and is affectionate with a goofy side– a great balance. When he is excited he wiggles and wags his whole body, not just his tail! He has lived peacefully with cats and dogs for years, and attended doggie daycare, but needs supervised proper introduction to new dogs as a couple have been known to rub him the wrong way. He is eager to please his humans, extremely affectionate, and very responsive to training. He has been crate-trained and does well staying in his crate when left on his own, but also stays alone in the house during working hours without incident. He loves stuffed animals, the outdoors (especially the beach where there are shellfish to eat) and chasing balls. He can be very good on leash and doesn’t pull with an experienced handler and training collar, but can be reactive when coming across some (usually bigger) dogs. He has not lived with children, but has always done well and been very gentle with those he has interacted with. He is accustomed to having a fenced back yard and going on a couple of walks most days. EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Winston was picked up as a stray in 2010 and spent months at Wake County Animal Shelter, before he was saved and fostered through BFPA. That foster turned into an adoption, but sadly his owners personal circumstances have changed drastically and they are no longer able to keep him, through no fault of Winston’s. He is an adaptable guy, ready for any adventure and young at heart, so will no doubt make a wonderful companion for his next family.
