SPAYED OR NEUTERED: Neutered

MICROCHIPPED: Yes

AROUND DOGS: Good

AROUND CATS: Wilbur has lived with cats and is gentle with them.  However, he is an excitable, oversized puppy, so he may attempt to chase and play with them if they run

AROUND CHILDREN: Good - given Wilbur's size and still being a young energetic puppy, he will probably do best in a home with older children

HOUSEBROKEN: Yes

CRATETRAINED: Wilbur is very well behaved in his crate, however, if he has been left alone all day he gets wound up.  Wilbur loves his people so much the ideal situation would be one where he isn't typically left alone for long hours of the day.  If he does have to be crated all day, plan to give him plenty of love when you return.

LEASH MANNERS: Wilbur walks well on a leash and is anxious to please.  However, he hasn't quite learned how to contain his excitement when he sees a new person and will test the limits of the leash to go say hi so he needs someone that can work with him on leash manners and be able to hold a 80+ pound dog reliably.

CAR RIDES: Does well in the car

FOSTER PARENT COMMENTS: Wilbur is extremely sweet and loving. He has a permanent grin on his face and he loves being around people. After the initial excitement he is content to lay down by your feet while out and about.  Wilbur loves ALL people and dogs. He does a a good job responding to other dog's attitudes and will play if they want to play, or leave them be if they don't want to play.  However, due to his size, even other rambunctious dogs may be a little overwhelmed by his playful demeanor.  Wilbur is very tolerant of other dogs and has not shown any aggression even when other dogs have snarled at him.  However, if another dog actually snaps at him, Wilbur will defend himself. He is not a fighter, but is larger than most aggressors so it may be scary if they get involved.  Wilbur is a sweet, goofy bull in a china closet and has no idea how big he is.  He is smart and anxious to please, so as he learns his size and limitations he is sure to be the most wonderful companion.   Wilbur knows sit, paw, and lay down, and is learning spin, dead dog, stay, and to give hugs.

EVERY DOG HAS A STORY: Wilbur was rescued by a kind family who were facing unforseen health conditions and could no longer meet his needs. They reached out to BFPA for help, and we were happy to bring this sweet and gorgeous boy into our program and help him find a wonderful family.
